He said his team were nothing but a cancer to the organisation

This is a true story.

I can't go into any detail, obviously to protect the innocent, but there's an organisation that has recently got its employee engagement survey results back.

It actually scored low.

It showed that leaders at high levels are disengaged.

Through anecdotal feedback with people that I've been talking with on the ground, there's one executive leader who's walking around openly communicating that

And I quote...

“This department is nothing but cancer to this organisation.”

And I thought...Wow!

That leader is totally unaware of the negative impact that he's having downstream on the people.

But the interesting thing is within that team, and I know these people within the team, they're dedicated to the craft and most have been there for 20 or 30 years.

And essentially what they're wanting is a bit of direction from the leader, yet the only time they see the leader is when they receive negative criticism or critique such as, "You're nothing but cancer to this organisation."

It's like, how do you build from there?

The staff are motivated.

The staff are engaged.

I've got to really question the capabilities of that leader.

It's that old adage that if you are pointing a finger at someone, there's three fingers pointing back at you.

You've got to have a look at yourself in regards to that.
